The program is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to adults ages 18 and older, including seniors. Certified instructors will lead the community class, which is designed to introduce participants to standing and ground-based skills that can help build awareness, confidence and practical safety habits.
According to the city’s program information, the class is intended for adults who are able to take part in light physical activity, including standing and basic movement. Seniors with more significant mobility limitations are welcome to attend as spectators.
The session is a practical public-safety opportunity rather than a fitness program or martial-arts course. Participants will have a chance to learn about awareness, movement and personal-safety strategies in a setting led by police instructors.
Registration is available through the Department of Parks and Recreation. The class is free for department members; the nonmember fee is $6. Residents can register online through the city’s recreation system or call Parks and Recreation at 908-474-8600 for assistance. The department’s office is located at the John T. Gregorio Center.
The city lists the class as part of its Parks and Recreation and Mayor’s Wellness Campaign programming. Residents considering participation should confirm registration availability before the Oct. 8 session.
