The Arbor Day Foundation had announced that Linden, NJ was named a Tree City USA community for its commitment to urban forestry. It is the 9th year Linden has earned this national honor from the Arbor Day Foundation, the nation's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees. "We all benefit when communities like Linden place a high priority on planting and caring for trees, one of our nation's most beauttful resources," said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Trees shade our homes and add beauty to our neighborhoods, and they also provide many environmental, economic and social benefits. We applaud Linden's elected officials, volunteers and citizens for providing vital care for its urban forest."


Annual Magic Show

The Linden Department of Public Property and Community Services provided some abra cadabra-hocuspocus-presteo chango free for all Linden children and their parents. The day of fantasy, illusion and magic was presented by Magician Joe Ficher at the McManus Middle School in April.


Students sign letters of intent to Monroe College
Linden High School Principal, Dr. Danny Robertozzi and head football coach, Deon Candia, proudly announced that five students have signed their letters of intent to Monroe College. The students Trey Baskerville, Sumir Burns, Anthony Alix, Khalil Burns, and Raheem Harris will be heading to Monroe College in New Rochelle, NY in the fall to play football. All five have received athletic scholarships and are anticipated to be major contributors to Monroe Mustang's newly formed football program.

Linden Industrial Association Annual Dinner
The Linden Industrial Association (LIA) held its 77th annual meeting at III Amici Ristorante on April 24th, 2012. Guest speakers included Richard J. Gerbounka, Mayor City of Linden and Tracye McDaniel. McDaniel is the newly appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Choose New Jersey

Memorial Day Services May 19 & 28

Memorial Day is the day to honor our veterans who made a supreme sacrifice for our nation. In memory of those men and women who died in securing peace and freedom the Linden Veterans Council invites all Linden residents and businesses to join this year's Memorial Day activities. Veteran Grave Site Flag Placements will take place on Saturday, May 19th. Placing memorial wreaths ceremony on City of Linden Veterans Monuments will take place on Monday, May 28th. For more information and a complete schedule click HERE.

 


Linden Chamber of Commerce invites you to "Corks & Forks" Spring Fling! Kick the summer off right by joining the chamber for an evening of networking, cocktails and hors d'oeurves at Dragonfly Restaurant located at 661 W. The Kiwanis Club of Linden will hold lunch meetings on May 10, 17 & 24 at 12:15 pm at the Southern Smokehouse located at 611 W. Edgar Road in Linden. Guest speakers will be featured. Linden Chamber of Commerce Scholarship / Awards Dinner
The Linden Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Scholarship/Awards Dinner on June 14, 2012 at Amici's Ristorante, Linden from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. Businesses of the Year to be honored: Large Business - Unity Bank; Small Business - Renna Media. Person of The Year - Elizabeth Garcia - Conoco Phillips. The Chamber scholarships will be awarded. Linden PD collects food for needy year-long

The Police department and Record Bureau workers continue their efforts to assist stocking the city's food pantries for the many families and senior citizens who are in need of aid.  There are six food pantries on the department list. Anyone else who wishes to help support the food drive are encouraged to drop off any non-perishable food items; including baby formula and baby food, to the Linden Police Department any time of the day or night.  The department hopes to continue collecting food year long.
